Welcome back everyone! We’re pleased to say that this half term has got off to a good start with our young people quickly settling back in and working hard.

We had another fantastic half term holiday club that was planned and organised around a Halloween theme – over 80 pupils attended! There were spooky spaghetti sensory activities, Halloween craft and a thrilling cinema experience complete with popcorn amongst the fun on offer, and we saw some very impressive fancy dress outfits on the last day. We are very proud of our holiday club offer and we are sure you will agree it is excellent value both for money and content (and often oversubscribed). Make sure you look out for the letter sent home after Christmas if your child would like to take advantage of our February holiday club.

We would like to extend our thanks to families for your patience and understanding regarding the changes to the end of day arrangements at the school site. We are pleased to report that the congestion in reception is greatly reduced and the safety of our young people is significantly improved as a result of the new system.

Correspondence has gone out to families at school regarding the sad news that a very popular member of our Year 8, Aalya, passed away this week. As a school community we have mourned her loss and we will be holding a special assembly to celebrate her life later this month.

As we have done in previous years, next Friday New Bridge will be raising funds for Children in Need. Dressing up is optional but uniform can be left at home for the day and we are hoping that as many young people as possible will want to take part in exchange for a small suggested donation of £1. Down at the school site we are hoping to see a good collection of ‘Super Hero’ costumes, and Learning Centre students will be able to treat themselves to something tasty from our cake stall. Please could we ask for no football shirts to be worn though, as they can cause tension on what is always a lovely, happy day with staff and young people dressing up and joining in the fundraising fun.

We will be hosting a ‘New Bridge Fundraising Day’ later in the year to raise funds specifically for all our young people across the New Bridge Group – please watch this space for further information.

In assembly today many of our young people were presented with copies of their exam certificates for Edexcel GCSEs in Maths, Statistics and PE, AQA GCSEs in English Language, English Literature, Art and Performing Arts, AQA Entry Level History, WJEC English Functional Skills, OCR Entry Levels in Information Technology, Science, Maths and PE and WJEC Entry Pathways Awards in Art. Well done to all of them on gaining such fantastic results, they should be very proud indeed of their achievements!

Looking ahead, part of the Learning Centre will be used as a polling station on Thursday 3rd December but we will remain open to students and there will be no changes to the timetable due to the election.

We hope you have a lovely weekend,

Judith and Roger
