We’ve had another whirlwind week at New Bridge to match the weather! Armistice Day on 11th November marked the end of the First World War and is a day to remember and honour those who have paid the price for our freedom. This week has seen the New Bridge community come together and pay our respects, homage and thanks to the many who have paid the ultimate sacrifice.

A group from school went to the Etihad Campus on Wednesday and took part in the Greater Manchester Wheelchair Games. Opportunities to experience wheelchair football and rugby using power chairs and adapted bikes were made available to the young people who went and they had a wonderful time…

Parents’ Evening at the school site is scheduled for next Tuesday 17th November from 4.15pm until 6.45pm. We are anticipating a very busy evening and we have asked parents to stick to a 5 minute slot with each teacher. If you feel that you need longer than this with any particular member of staff, please could you telephone the school office to arrange an appointment. We hope that this may reduce the waiting times for the staff who see the most parents. Parents’ Evening for all those attending the Learning Centre will be held the week after, on Tuesday 24th November. We really appreciate your continued support and we hope to see you there.

On a final note, our Children in Need day has been a great success! Many of our staff and young people came resplendent in a variety of fancy dress outfits – we had no idea there were so many superheroes at New Bridge (although we’ve always had our suspicions!) The school site held a non-uniform day and we had a visit from a blue smurf who was most helpful taking minutes in school meetings, a storm trooper, an Indian Maharajah and Mario, to name a few!

The Food Industry group at the Learning Centre made some very tasty and beautifully decorated cakes which sold out within half an hour, raising £12 in the process. Other activities such as selling badges proved very popular and along with the donations we received we are confident we have raised a respectable amount for Children in Need – we’ll count it up and let you know next week.

We are planning a ‘Santa Stroll’ in the last week of term to raise monies specifically for New Bridge so watch this space for further information……

We hope you have a lovely weekend,

Judith and Roger
