Just one week until half term, how quickly times goes! Preparations are in full swing for the half term holiday club, planning all our varied activities to match the interests and needs of our young people. The standard of the provision is amazing, we are very proud of the offer that is available to our New Bridge community. If you haven’t signed up for this month’s club, please keep an eye out for the letters that will be going home after the holiday regarding the Easter break.

We had some lovely feedback after last week’s World War 2 themed study that some of our children have been involved in, please click here if you missed it. I’m sure you’ll agree the images were first class, and we intend to make these features a regular part of our website so that you can see more of the fantastic work that our young people do.

On Monday Activ8 were at MCFC again, this time taking part in learning about the art of refereeing, fair play and being impartial. No pressure there then, eh? Once again it has made us think about the other side of education – not levels, accreditation or academic achievement but the personal and social learning which can be so often overlooked. One side without the other though doesn’t work as well. At New Bridge the whole child is important, and we are fortunate that our class teams, administration staff and deliverers are all able to understand our young people and support them.

Single conversations are taking place with the transfer onto a Education and Health Care plan following on. These, in the main, have been very positive experiences for families and have also helped to identify areas that could be better for our pupils. I would like to thank our families for working with us and feeling able to speak honestly and frankly on these occasions.

It’s an exciting time for our Year 13 students as they prepare for next week’s Calvert Trust residential visit to the Lake District. They have been counting down the months, weeks and days since September and we just hope they can contain themselves for one more weekend! Our adventurous students will be taking part in a wide range of activities including horse riding, canoeing, climbing, archery, bushcraft and adapted bikes – our staff are hoping they have the stamina to keep up!

Students are encouraged to try all the activities, regardless of ability, in order to reach their full potential and many accounts of our young people’s individual achievements on past visits are truly inspiring! These activities help raise confidence and self-esteem, in addition to developing a range of personal, social and life skills. Please see these photos from last year’s trip for a glimpse of what lies ahead and find further details on Calvert Trust’s own website here.

Next Tuesday 9th February is Safer Internet Day and Mr Bright has been busy preparing resources and making sure our young people are informed and involved. There have been some really good, thought provoking discussions following today’s assembly and you can access the links we are using at New Bridge here.

Don’t forget that you still have time to get a beautiful gift for that special someone before Valentine’s Day at the same time as supporting our young people with their enterprise work – just contact the New Bridge Printers by emailing nbprinters@newbridgegroup.org or calling 0161 883 2402 and they will be happy to let you know the range of very reasonably priced items that are available for you to choose from. Ask them about their Valentines specials!

Looking further ahead, our next coffee morning has been arranged for Wednesday 2nd March – please look out for the letters sent home today and make a note in your diaries.

Now that students at the Learning Centre have finally named our new resident female crow ‘Stitch’ she has decided to make herself scarce, so Hitch may be on his own again – back to eating window putty!

Have a restful and peaceful weekend,

Judith and Dawn
