I’m sure last Tuesday morning wasn’t pretty for any of us in school. The thought of waking up early in preparation for our return to school was mind-numbing in my house. However, it has been a really good start to the new half term with loads of trips and lots of exciting opportunities for all of us to get involved with.

My first day back was spent in Wigan competing in the Greater Manchester Indoor Rowing Competition. We have a new Greater Manchester Rowing Champion in Charlie, as well as two silver medal winners in the team events – you can read all about the day here. It was an excellent effort by everyone involved and I am really excited to be competing in more events throughout the year, including a Tag Rugby competition on the 15th March which I will keep you updated about!

The following day, I attended the Oldham Ability Leaders Day where Activ8 gained valuable experience in delivering disability sport competitions – you can see all the photos here. While everyone wants to be on the field of play, I feel that it is more important to have good quality coaches delivering high quality sessions which in turn will allow for better quality to be showcased in the sporting arena. Furthermore, I was really impressed with the students of Oldham Sixth Form College who helped out during the day. Many of us aspire to go to college as our progression from leaving New Bridge and one of our ‘old’ students, Luke, who has done just this and is now at Oldham Sixth Form College, told me he is a massive fan of this blog!

Activ8 will also be nurturing the new recruits over the next few weeks with our “taster days” during our extremely brutal Tuesday morning fitness sessions at the ever impressive Mahdlo facility…I look forward to sharing those photos with you!

Our New Bridge Family will get ever closer during our Coffee Morning on Wednesday. Coffee Morning gives us the chance to show our wonderful hospitality as well as being one of the few opportunities we get to eat cake and drink coffee during school time! I find it a fantastic chance to meet parents during the morning and show how good a school New Bridge is.

I am also delighted to see the outstanding work we have done to get Medtia Square up to our very high “New Bridge Standard”. I cannot wait to have a look around the facilities at a later date and report back to you.

I apologise for this blog being slightly late, Cup Final weekend has taken its toll – on some more than others, though! I would like to say it was very sad to see the faces of Mr Smith and Mr Barker following such a defeat…

Have a good week,

Matthew
