Our Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Scheme is going from strength to strength and is proving very popular with our young people..
It’s hard to imagine that we only started running the scheme 3 years ago with a small group from our Activ8 Sports pathway who started out with their Bronze Awards. Not only did that original group successfully complete their Bronze Awards, they went on to gain their Silver Awards last year and are now working towards their Gold – an incredible achievement!
We now have groups across the school taking part at all 3 award levels and we are working towards making the scheme accessible to the young people in both our Nurture Group and our E Base using differentiated activities. Everyone who takes part develops their independence skills not to mention having a fantastic time being in the great outdoors!
The week before the Easter holidays saw our Bronze group complete their practice expedition along the Monsal Trail..
As you can see, they had a brilliant time and were lucky with the weather..

Our Silver group are heading off to Macclesfield today and will be combining canoeing and walking, camping overnight in Poynton. Our intrepid Gold group will be in North Wales next week for their practice expedition, experiencing some ‘wild camping’!!! We can’t wait to bring you news of how these expeditions go, so we’ll leave you for now with some more pictures from our Bronze adventure..
