Wow, what a fantastic week we’ve had with everyone working hard across the board! The weather has been amazing and the old adage ‘when the sun shines, people smile’ has certainly seemed to be the case.
The sun was shining down on our New Bridge Scouts in St. Annes last weekend and their pictures from the beach look particularly wonderful..

They had a fantastic time taking part in the annual Scouting weekend that has become a firm favourite in the New Bridge calendar – we’ve heard tales of climbing, archery, campfires and…but we don’t want to spoil the surprise, our Scouts want to bring you their own report next week!
Spring is certainly bringing out the colour at New Bridge – don’t miss the lovely Learning Centre tulips! Our Hortus students continue to work tirelessly whatever the weather to keep the grounds at both the school and Learning Centre sites looking their best but they have really appreciated the sunny spell. Our E-Base staff and students would especially like to thank Kevin, Ashley, Matthew, Jack, John, Ryan and Corey for clearing their garden and making it a ‘lovely place to be’ for the students. Miss Thornhill was very impressed at how ‘they worked like troupers!’ – well done, lads!
Our Gold Duke of Edinburgh’s group also had reason to be thankful for the sun this week as they ventured into deepest North Wales. Their practice expedition was a resounding success and once again, the determination and resilience that our young people demonstrate is commendable..

A new term means it is time for the next meetings of our School Council and Student Council. Our young people are learning valuable life skills through their roles as representatives of their year groups. The meetings are held with heads of site and governors, giving our young councillors the opportunity to collaborate with others and have a real impact on their school community. We look at national and local issues to ensure our agenda reflects what’s happening. One of our agenda items this term will be the Summer Olympics and how we can interact with the school and Learning Centre communities to promote the values of the games.
At the Learning Centre our student councillors have been gathering opinions and requests from their year groups ready for the Student Council meeting which will be held next Wednesday. We’re confident they will, as always, do us proud! However, we can’t guarantee that the requests for a swimming pool and an arcade will be successful!
Our IB groups’ theme for the summer is ‘picnics’. They are concentrating on choice making and they have all picked activities they would like. In Geography they have planned a journey that has been visualised around the room with ‘stop offs’ at Glastonbury, Wimbledon and the Chelsea flower show. They have made homemade ice cream and will be using the switch to make ice lollies – please look out for another of our special IB features next week with lots of pictures!
We have enjoyed celebrating Her Majesty the Queen’s 90th Birthday with displays, assemblies and lots of flags..
Mrs Thompson, a true royalist who has even camped out on the Mall, kindly brought in her collection of memorabilia from throughout the Queen’s reign to give our IB class a very authentic sensory table of objects..
We have certainly learnt a lot of interesting new facts about the Royal Family this week 🙂
Please could we ask for your help in making sure your child does not come into school with sweets. We are particularly concerned about lollies and gob stoppers due to the potential risk of choking and we will have to confiscate any that are brought in and send them back home at the end of the day. Thank you for your support with this.
Once again we would like to thank our young people for their care and support of each other. It’s humbling to watch the compassion, tolerance and understanding they show towards their friends and peers regardless of need or ability.
We would also like to thank all the staff who have supported our young people on what seems like a non-stop round of ‘out of hours’ trips and activities and provided them with such inclusive and enjoyable experiences.
