We are privileged and honoured to be Heads of Site at New Bridge. Every day we are impressed by the commitment and enthusiasm of pupils, students and staff to ensure that the school and the Learning Centre really do provide, “Learning together, learning for all, learning for life”. We would like to take this opportunity to welcome all the new pupils, students, parents and carers to our New Bridge community.
During our visits to lessons this week we have been delighted by the high quality teaching and learning we’ve observed and we are impressed by how the young people at New Bridge are rising to our challenge; they have excellent manners and they are always polite and courteous. It has been lovely to see our new pupils being welcomed into school by the older children and at the Learning Centre our Year 13 and Year 14 students have done a wonderful job of supporting and encouraging our new Year 12s.
We finished the week at both sites with our Friday afternoon assemblies where we celebrated the week’s successes and presented certificates of accreditation. We have once again achieved some excellent academic results ranging from Entry Level to GCSE qualifications and we are very proud of how hard our young people have worked – well done!! As a staff group we are committed to ensuring that everyone can achieve their very best in all areas of the curriculum.
We also reflected on the theme of the British Paralympic team, “Yes, we can!”
We talked about the lyrics:
“I’m afraid to go on” has turned into “Yes, I can”
Got the feeling I can do anything,
“Yes, I can!”
For all our young people starting a new journey at New Bridge who might be feeling nervous or afraid, the clip reinforces that no matter our need, disability or circumstances, we can do whatever we put our minds to:
At New Bridge our goal is to help our young people develop the skills, knowledge, qualifications, character, and ambition to become great young people, able to access opportunities and life chances that may be on offer. We want them to become adults we are all proud of, individuals who make a positive impact in the world in which they live.
New Bridge is a place where themes of respect, tolerance, fair play, good manners and hard work can be seen in action every single day. We will be bringing you all the latest events from across the school and Learning Centre here in our blog every week and we are looking forward to sharing our New Bridge news with you. Please visit the other sections of this website for more information on everything from the curriculum to holiday patterns and paying for school meals online. You can also keep in touch through our Facebook and Twitter pages (please click on the icons at the top right of this page if you would like to follow us.)
We realise that these first days of term can be very different for our new pupils and students – please don’t hesitate to contact your child’s Head of Year or Pastoral Manager if you have any worries or concerns. They are:
Year 7 – Mr Thompson, Head of Year and Mr O’Neill, Pastoral Manager
Year 8 – Mr Neagle, Head of Year and Mrs Soltyk, Pastoral Manager
Year 9 – Mr Neagle, Head of Year and Mr Garside, Pastoral Manager
Year 10 – Mr Southerington, Head of Year and Mrs Meadows, Pastoral Manager
Year 11 – Mr Southerington, Head of Year and Mrs Needham, Pastoral Manager
Year 12 – Mr Barker, Head of Year and Miss Wright, Pastoral Manager
Year 13 – Miss Morris, Head of Year and Mr Hagan, Pastoral Manager
Year 14 – Miss Morris, Head of Year and Mrs Lane, Pastoral Manager
If your child is on one of our Key Stage 5 Pathways based at Medtia Square, Mrs Nelson is the Pastoral Manager based on site to support them.
We would like to thanks parents and carers for their patience and understanding as we work to ensure that transport arrangements at the end of the day are running smoothly. At the Learning Centre we are finalising a parking plan which can be fully implemented once the building work has been completed on site. We do have increased numbers of parents and carers collecting students at the end of the day in addition to transport and we are asking that you park at the side or rear of the Learning Centre unless you are collecting our young people in wheelchairs. If you experience any difficulties, please do come and talk to us.
We are looking forward to our first full week of the term – we’re sure it will be a typical action-packed New Bridge one and we’re looking forward to telling you all about it!
