This week seems to have flown by at Spring Brook Upper. We started the week with a meeting with the Department for Education regarding our Springboard Project. We now have a long list of things to do in preparation for the Project to begin. We have also been looking at the work involved for our new exciting curriculum which will include:
- Vocational opportunities such as catering and warehousing
- Life skills
- Opportunities within the local community of Oldham and the surrounding areas
In the week before half term we were privileged to receive a visit from the Greater Manchester Police. Two officers who are based in the Failsworth and Hollinwood area came to speak to Key Stage 4 pupils about knife crime and the importance of keeping safe..
The presentation centred around the aftermath of what happens to young people who carry a knife and the officers talked about how this affects their families as well as the victims of knife crime. Our young people listened carefully to what was being said and found the question and answer session at the end useful and informative. The police have agreed with us that they will drop in at any time to discuss other issues around keeping our young people safe..
World Book Day on Thursday proved eventful for our staff, especially Miss Rodgers (a witch) and Mrs Thorpe (Snow White) and myself (another witch, although my cloak and hat didn’t stay on for very long!!) I am sure the pictures will follow in the Key Stage 3 blog!!!!
Can I also remind pupils, parents and carers of the letter sent out just before half term which stressed:
- correct uniform should be worn at all times – dark trousers/skirt and a Spring Brook sweatshirt or blazer
- the importance of keeping safe
- our policy of handing in mobile phones and other devices
Thank you to all our parents for working with us with on these issues.
Have a good weekend,
Mrs Tootill
Head of Springboard Project
