This week’s blog is titled ‘Leap of Faith’, inspired by the photograph taken at Bolton Abbey of the Year 9 boys on their Duke of Edinburgh’s Award..
On Monday myself and Mrs Thorpe met with Jennifer O’Neil, a yoga teacher who we are hoping to work with in the future. Jenny delivers yoga to young people and understands how this will benefit our learners. We discussed the new mental health framework in schools which is to be launched in June this year. We are looking forward to this new development as it will help to reinforce and embed the work that we do in school in order to support our young people’s mental health.
Key Stage 3 have had an eventful week to say the least and the pupils are continuing to work towards achieving our school’s behaviour expectations which are:
- Attend school regularly and be punctual
- Wear appropriate school uniform correctly and look smart
- Choose friendly language
- Co-operate with others
- Handle your emotions positively
- Do your best
- Choose safe behaviour
- Respect your school and the people in it
- Be in the right place at the right time
The Nurture Group boys have been making bird houses this week in Design Technology. Wayne helped James, showing him how the pieces fit together..
The boys have hung bird feeders in the trees outside the classroom window and are looking at what types of birds are visiting them..
In Maths Wayne and Mark have moved on to adding fractions, while James is working on solving money problems. In Food Technology the boys made Jammy Dodgers, with Wayne donating his to Red Nose Day. Wayne also went to help with preparing the cakes in Food Technology for Red Nose Day..
It’s lovely to hear of another great week in the Nurture Group with lots of work completed – well done, boys!
Spring Brook finished the week raising money for Red Nose Day. Mrs Daniels organised a staff car wash and Year 10 did a great job washing staff cars and cleaning the interiors. We wore non-uniform and had a cake sale. Mrs Ebenezer and Miss Rodgers were busy baking lovely cakes and the kind Mr Allman also brought in cakes to sell. Wayne and Leo kept a close eye on Year 10 to make sure they did a good job..
Callon and Wayne then decided to clean up the car park before doing a litter pick around the school grounds – thank you, Callon and Wayne!
We end this week thinking about taking leaps of faith and focusing more on developing our culture of learning at Spring Brook..
We are looking forward to exciting new curriculum changes in Key Stage 3. Mrs Thorpe and I have listened to the children through pupil voice meetings this week and we have noted their ideas around topic based learning in Key Stage 3….watch this space for exciting new and innovative learning at Spring Brook!
