Well, what a busy few weeks at Spring Brook Academy! Mrs Thorpe and I have been working on designing a new Key Stage 3 curriculum which is topic based learning together with lots of other very interesting things. We have met with Healthy Young Minds and we will continue to meet regularly and work closely with them in order to meet the needs of our young people.

Let’s look at what Mrs Walters’ Nurture Group has been up to. In Food Techology they made burgers..

..which I can confirm were delicious as they made one for Mr Pryce and me on the condition we helped with the washing up!

Adam has now joined the Year 9 group and had a good first day settling well although the boys have said they are missing him. In Maths this term we have started to use order of operations to solve problems and in Science we are learning about mini beasts and their habitats. This week Miss Headland had joined our group and has settled in quickly and the boys have been busy, working well and producing some outstanding work. In Science Mark helped Miss Daniels with a demonstration and had to dress for the part..

In class Science we have continued looking at garden mini beasts and their habitats, with the bug house craft display nearly finished in our Art and Craft the boys and DT lessons..

In Food Technology James made gingerbread men, he weighed the ingredients and mixed the dough with help..

In class DT Wayne made a model car fitting some of the very fiddly bits together independently..

The boys have continued to read “The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas” and learned more about the characters as they completed more of their workbooks.

Key Stage 3 have been working hard on their Maths. SBA2 have produced some great work; let’s have a look at Jameel and Connor’s work as good examples..

Great Maths work boys, I am so impressed!

Mrs Ebenezer has been making lovely food in Key Stage 3…

We made mini product cakes this week after learning about quality control in the manufacturing process -one off, batch and mass production. The students applied quality control in different stages of making mini cakes and used batch production processes. This term we will be making different sauces and developing them into main dishes. Today we made tomato base sauce with pasta..

Here is Some work from SBA2. Jameel has been working hard on a Graffiti poster for his brother Junayd..

Connor I. has made a hedgehog from a book, named Trevor..

Leo’s and Connor D. habe been working hard in Maths..

I love this photo of Jameel proudly holding onto his Art work..

Miss Brown and Mr Roscoe have taken the lead on our new Key Stage 3 Nurture group. Cameron S, Callon, Leo and Ethan have joined this group, let’s have a look at what they have been up to over the past few weeks.

SPA2 Nurture enjoyed spending the day out in the park with all three boys wearing their Hartlepool football club gear that they received during the week. Leo learnt today that he had a little heart when he spent a huge part of his time in the park hand feeding the ponies. Callon really enjoyed racing down the park hills on his scooter, whilst Cameron realised his best sport was not crazy golf. Great day had by all and very well deserved, it was lovely to watch the boys smile and get on..

A good day was had by all boys Miss Brown, I have never seen Leo smile as much! A well-deserved reward break.

I would like to take the opportunity to thank personally Mr Mark Burrows from Hartlepool FC for the generous donation of kit bags and football gear this week. The boys have really enjoyed wearing their new clothes. Such a kind donation, we really do appreciate you thinking about our Spring Brook Family – THANK YOU Mr Burrows!

The new Nurture Group have faced some challenges but through persevering and facing challenges together the group are now working well.

This Friday the D of E Year 9s went out in search of waterfalls and had a great time trekking up the valley streams in the Rivington area of the Pennines. After getting suitably wet, a short walk over the tops set the famous 5 up for an amazing view over the countryside..

Have a lovely weekend,

Miss Rodgers
