This week it was the turn of our Bronze Duke of Edinburgh’s group to venture off with their rucksacks and boots for their qualifying expedition and overnight camp. Thankfully the weather stayed dry (unlike the previous week for our Gold group in Wales!) and everyone came back safe and sound, if rather tired! You can read more about their adventures in Mr Taylor’s report here..
Thursday evening saw us all dressed up for our prestigious Sports Awards – over 50 children were presented with an award, how remarkable is that? Last year Luke, a former student was guest speaker for the night. This year he is volunteering at school whilst waiting to begin his journey in higher education – Luke remarkably is going to Warwick University and we wish him every success. He has been a real help and we have so appreciated his hard work. Luke was also our first young person to enrol at Oldham Sixth Form College. This year yet another Activ8 pupil and Head Boy, Jack Bayley, is also moving on to college. We congratulate Jack on receiving our Sports Personality of the Year Award, well done we are really pleased for him. Ellen Godfrey won the Swimming Endeavour prize and it’s fair to say her reaction to the news brought the house down! Sports personalities Shelley Holroyd (British Olympic javelin thrower), James Tarkowski (footballer for Burnley) and Chris Taylor (footballer for OAFC, previous clubs Blackburn and Millwall) were also there to present the awards and add some extra glitz and panache to the evening.
It was great to welcome so many parents and carers to the transition evening held on Wednesday at the Learning Centre and share a little of the ethos and structure, in addition to meeting key staff who will be supporting our students in September. If anyone was unable to attend but would like information or to speak to staff, please do not hesitate to contact us.
On Tuesday colleagues from across the organisation joined together for our celebration evening held at the Ethiad. We watched with pride the achievements of all our young people and were reminded ‘why we do what we do.’ The evening reinforced just how much our young people grow on their journey with us at New Bridge and what they can achieve with the support, encouragement and care of our ‘family’. We were also able to say a huge ‘thank you’ to our staff teams for their continued hard work, resilience and dedication.
The New Bridge Swimming Department has been very busy and our young people have been gaining awards fro swimming some very impressive distances – find out all about it here..
If you follow our social media pages, you will have already heard the fantastic news about our Digit4ll students Luke, Tom and Mitchell who travelled down to the Young Enterprise National Final in London on Thursday with Mr Bright. Their enterprise ‘Enspire’ won the award for Best Advertisement and Tom was a runner up for the Sir John Moore’s Personal Achievement Award – incredible achievements for our hard working young people, we are extremely proud of them..
Next week we will be cruising in sixth gear and here are a few dates for your diaries. The evening performances of our Summer show, Aladdin and Jasmine, will take place this Tuesday and Wednesday. If you would like to order a copy of the DVD that our talented Digit4ll students will be filming and producing, please click here. Our eagerly awaited Year 11 and Year 14 leavers prom will finish the week off perfectly on Friday night and we can’t wait to welcome all our young people in their finest outfits! Dresses and suits have been purchased and we’re sure some interesting vehicles booked – here’s hoping for fine weather! We are also looking forward to welcoming families to the Leavers Year 11 Awards Ceremony and the Year 14 Record of Achievement Ceremony, both on the last week of term – you may need a tissue handy for some of the speeches but there are also some surprises in store…..
Miss Allison would like to thank all our Learning Centre families for your patience and understanding as the building work for the new roof takes place. We appreciate parking is difficult at the moment but it will be worth it – no more leaks!!
If you have not yet had chance to fill in our quick parent questionnaire, we’d be very grateful if you could click on the link here to let us know how we’re doing.
