Another busy week has gone by for us at Medtia and, as always, it has been jam packed with hard work both in class and on placements.

It is great to see both Digit4ll and the Pre-internship students preparing their products for the Christmas Markets in Manchester in a couple of weeks! The pre-interns have launched a business selling charms for wine glasses and the Digit4ll team will be creating personalised phone cases – both would make excellent Christmas presents so do bear them in mind!

You may have received a letter this week (please click here if you missed it) relating to supporting First Choice Homes in collecting for the local food banks this Christmas. As part of the project, some of our students from the Learning Centre have been getting involved in collections over at First Place on Thursday..

This week Zanub, Hamza and Josh were asked to help out the First Choice Homes team who are collecting donations over the five week run up to Christmas for Oldham Food Bank. This week they were collecting tins and jars. The students started by collecting the trolley, taking it around the floors and asking if ‘anyone has any tins please?’ – it was a bit different to our usual trolley run asking ‘if they anyone wants to buy any snacks?’..

It was hard work pushing the trolley round the heavier it got!

All three students are looking forward to helping out next week, collecting packets of food..

Now over to The Premier Inn for ‘a day in the life of…..’ Future Finders student Humayan….

A day in the life of Humayun

Premier Inn

I arrive at 9am at the Premier Inn, sign in and collect my key card..

I collect the trolley ready to start my housekeeping duties..

I arrive at the first room of the day..

..and the first job on the agenda is to clean the bathroom..

Next I strip the bed and take out the bedding along with any rubbish from the bins and collect fresh linen..

Then I make the bed to the standard needed ready for the next guest..

I do the dusting and make sure that all consumables, crockery and glasses are replaced..

The final thing is to vacuum the room and have a final check, making sure everything is to the right standard..

Before I leave I help collect the dirty laundry, putting it in the cages ready to be taken away..

I complete these tasks throughout the day supporting the staff at the Premier Inn, covering 10+ rooms and spending around 30 minutes on each room.

All in a day’s work!!

We have had Sam our photographer in again this week to take more photographs of our pathways students for our calendar – we will be sending these home before the end of the term. It once again gave me the opportunity to see our young people hard at work in the community. I was particularly impressed with Activ8 who we visited over at Mahdlo where they were working out in the gym! It was a little sweaty but it was clear to see that the guys were working hard and really enjoying the session. We’ll have an update on their work this term next week, together with news of an exciting challenge they have taken on.

That’s all from me this week. Don’t forget that our Parents’ Evening at Medtia for our pathways and pre-internship students is next Wednesday 29th November – I hope to catch up with you all in person then.

Have a fantastic weekend,

Director of Employment & Co Head of Site at Medtia Square
