Blink and it is December already – that’s how fast the pace is in the world of SEMH! I’ve been getting excited looking forward to Christmas this year. I am very proud of Spring Brook for supporting the Operation Christmas Child Charity again this year. Our students really enjoy putting the presents together and can’t believe that some children around the world don’t get any presents at Christmas. Thank you to our wonderful students who gave Mary from Operation Christmas Child the shoeboxes filled with gifts..
Let’s have a look at the Nurture Group…
Where has the time gone? Last week the group were super busy with lots of amazing work being completed. In Science we are looking at different life cycles, plants and animals. The group did research in preparation for making a class display on different animals. In art and craft we started to make tree decorations – Harry even used glue!!
The boys have become more confident while reading ‘Holes’, with most of them reading in front of the others. In food tech the boys made burgers with very tasty results. They all worked tidily and safely..
..and of course enjoyed eating them..
The boys enjoyed the soft play at Hollinwood on Tuesday, using teamwork to find hidden bean bags. In Maths the group have started a new topic of multiplying and dividing numbers by 10, 100 and 1000. In their DT lesson the boys have been making wooden robots with Mr Pidlyskyj..
I am looking forward to see them all finished! The Nurture Group have put two shoeboxes together and were asked to give them to Mary from Samaritan’s Purse..
Mary has told the pupils she will let them know where they go to.
This week the boys have been very busy making posters showing the life cycles of different animals. Leo did the butterfly..
The boys have worked hard in Maths and English lessons, completing a great amount of work, and have continued making their Christmas tree decorations in art and craft..
In our living skills lesson the group used fine motor skills to produce a model of their own choice. Harvey made an alien..
..and Harry made a garden..
In food tech the boys made chicken curry and rice. They worked safely following staff instructions..
..and all produced a lovely dish to take home for tea..
Well done, boys!
From Mr Mullin’s class, Wayne and Lewis are making snowmen decorations in DT for the Christmas Fair..
WOW boys, the snowmen are just amazing. I will buy a red and white one and hope it brings Manchester United luck for this weekend’s Manchester Derby! Over to Mr Page’s class…
This week in English, SBA1 have been looking at writing to persuade. We have been reading about relevant issues to our class and trying to formulate our opinions about them. We have then tried to develop our opinions into paragraphs that include explanations and examples.
In Maths we have been looking at inverse operations. We have been exploring the relationship between addition and subtraction as well as multiply and divide.
In living skills we have made chicken curry. This lesson focused on accurate measurement of herbs and spices as well as following instructions accurately. It was also an opportunity for students to use multiple skills that we have learned in previous lessons to see if they could utilise them in one recipe.
Miss Brown’s Year 9 have also been busy…
This week the Year 9 class enjoyed spending time making candy sweet cones made from hot chocolate and sweets to look like Christmas characters. The class were all really good at working as a team and enjoyed dispensing little job roles out to one another.
Once all of the items were made the class created a budget spreadsheet for costing and sold them to the rest of the school to pay towards their class funds. Well done Year 9, we made £35.00! Great class effort, keep up all your hard work.
Three of our pupils on offsite provision are learning how to strip and then build back up a BMX bike. This is part of the Positive Cycles Project they’re accessing which encourages them to engage and work as individuals and together. Callum has completed his bike and has been awarded a certificate by Positive Cycles for outstanding work. The pupils are also working towards an AQA Award in bike maintenance through this project..
