The theme for Mr Jackson’s IB class at the Learning Centre this term is ‘The Secret Garden’…with a twist!
We have enjoyed creating our own version of ‘The Secret Garden’ with Adil being the gardener..
..Michael the maid (he’s had his hair done specially)..
..and Jordan the monster (we know, we know – but we really like monsters!) We have read through the story, recognising objects and the characters throughout..
In Maths we have linked to the story through arranging flowers and planting bulbs and carefully counting the numbers we have..
We have also been on a hunt around the Learning Centre using directions and explored further afield on our Outdoor Ed sessions..
Our morning cafe is our breakfast club with a difference. We have a menu from which to choose and we all have roles that change weekly – setting the tables, sorting the food, clearing the tables when breakfast is over, washing up, putting everything away and cleaning the tables..
Just look at this for service..
In Living Skills we have been going to Hair and Beauty where the students have a choice of treatments – they can have their hair washed, relax with the foot spa or have a hand massage and nail polish. Each week some students choose a treatment while the others get to work in the salon. Those giving the treatments have a card showing the equipment they need to find before they can start helping to give the treatment. Michael really enjoyed his pampering session..
..while Adil donned his barber’s jacket and set to..
Michael’s turn next!
We left our Secret Garden topic for a couple of weeks to focus on Halloween and Bonfire Night – of course we don’t do anything by halves, so we made a very thorough job of wrapping each other up as mummies..
We’re not too sure who’s under here!!
We also mastered dunking for apples..
..making rockets..
..and we had fun creating a very eye catching giant firework explosion picture..
In Food Tech we have based our lessons around our Secret Garden theme, making salsa, soup and vegetarian curry while Halloween saw us tackling spider cookies and Bonfire Night meant some tasty Catherine Wheel creations..
If you ever need a hand with the washing up, you know who to call!
As you can see, we’ve been having a wonderful time – thank you for joining us!
