On Tuesday 5th February it’s Safer Internet Day and New Bridge will be fully involved in the event, as we are every year. Safer Internet Day is celebrated globally in February each year to promote the safe and positive use of digital technology for children and young people and inspire a national conversation. Schools from all over the country will be taking part in different ways following this year’s theme ‘Together for a better internet’.
Some of our New Bridge students can struggle when it comes to online safety, especially around social media, and we have an embedded E-Safety programme at New Bridge which aims to give every student the knowledge required to keep safe. Following last week’s forecast for heavy snow, I was relieved to find we only had major disruptions on one day when Transport rang to say they would be collecting students early because of the adverse weather conditions. I’d like to thank families for their understanding and co-operation in collecting students early, ensuring everyone got home safe and sound. The snow however was welcomed by some of the Learning Centre students who definitely made the most of it, including Mr Taylor’s Forest Skills group, Mr Smith’s Sports option group and Imnann and Abbie who did their best to create our own Learning Centre snowman..
I have started this term’s round of lesson observations with colleagues. It’s always a delight to see first-hand students engaged and enjoying learning and I am looking forward to sharing some of the highlights in the next couple of weeks.
Student voice and need remain at the heart of everything we do here at New Bridge and next week I will be joining our Learning Centre student representatives and governors for this term’s Student Council meeting, an event that always generates some very interesting and informative discussions.
As you may be aware, New Bridge Group has committed itself to our iPad one-to-one project which will see all students across the MAT having their very own iPad. The Learning Centre iPad working party have started to meet to plan how we can embrace technology within the whole curriculum, whilst ensuring accessibility for all our students regardless of need or ability. It’s a very exciting project and I can’t wait to learn more. We’ll try to keep you updated during the weeks ahead.
Continuing the ICT theme, during a Year 13 observation this week I saw some outstanding teaching and learning and even picked up some new tips around spreadsheets. Well done guys, I know where to go for my ICT queries in future!
