All in all it’s been a pretty full on week in which I’ve been involved in a whole range of different activities that being a Head of School brings with it:

  • interviewing for new staff to join our incredible team
  • discussing the progress of the school and its future development with our supportive governors
  • meeting many wonderful young people from primary schools around Oldham and beyond who will be joining us as Year 7 pupils in September
  • working with some of our fantastic parents to tackle the particular needs of their child
  • planning the training and development of our staff team with our highly skilled and knowledgeable Speech and Language team
  • planning the upcoming Year 11 Leavers’ Assembly (can’t believe it’s that time already!)
  • dropping into classes on learning walks and witnessing some outstanding practice that I can’t wait to share across the school
  • presenting a certificate to Nadia during her ‘Graduation Ceremony’ (complete with caps and gowns and organised by the wonderful Miss Silvester and her wonderful class team, Mrs Holland and Miss Shaw)
  • saying goodbye to Miss Silvester and Miss Soltyk as they head off on maternity leave (all the very best from us all – you’re going to make brilliant mums)

All that plus the usual emails, phone calls and meetings and spending time chatting to our brilliant pupils during break times, lunches and on their way to lessons. I’m thinking Fathers’ Day has come at just the right time! Who knows, I might even get a lie in and breakfast in bed!

This week we take a closer look at one of our Autism Bases classes with Miss Bingley..

In AB2 we have had a great week working on our Learning for Life and Living Skills. We have been doing really well choosing our dinners..

..washing up our pots after breakfast club..

..brushing our teeth..

..washing our hands before dinner..

..and setting the table for dinner..

We have been looking at African animals in World Studies..

..and rocket letters and numbers in English and Maths, linking to our ‘Noah and the Space Ark’ theme this term..

Overall we have had a great week – we really enjoyed going out on the bus and accessing the park as well!

Tuesday saw Mr Holban’s GCSE Maths class tackle this year’s third and final exam, supported by our wonderful team of invigilators – Mrs McAiney, Mr Garbutt and Miss Shaw. The pupils have all worked incredibly hard throughout the exams and Mr Holban is delighted with the determination and maturity they have shown.  I’m sure they will be very pleased to leave all their revision behind them and finally relax this weekend!

Our girls’ football team also did themselves proud on Wednesday at the ‘One City’ league at Manchester City. Thankfully the matches took place under cover so the rain didn’t stop play..
