Without a doubt, the highlight of the week had to be our Leavers’ Assembly on Wednesday. It was a very special event in which we welcomed family and friends and gathered together as a whole school community to say a fond goodbye to our Year 11 pupils. Moments like these are always filled with mixed emotions and this week’s assembly was no different. We celebrated everything our leavers had learned and their many fantastic achievements on their journey with us through school. We happily recalled the memories that had been made, the experiences that had been shared and good times that had been had. There was also a real sense of excitement in the air as we looked forward to next steps, new adventures, and thoughts of what the future holds.

We were extremely honoured to welcome Kyle, a New Bridge Alumni (Class of 2015), who is currently working as part of the vast team responsible for managing the enormous IT infrastructure at Manchester Metropolitan University. He inspired us all by describing his journey through New Bridge and onwards to his current position whilst sharing some sage advice for our current generation of learners ready to follow in his footsteps. It truly was a magical event and one I hope our leavers will remember for a very long time. Congratulations to all our Year 11 pupils on everything you’ve achieved with us, thank you for the wonderful memories you’ve shared with us and good luck on your new adventures.

As promised, we have an update for you from one of our Interactive Base classes..

During our Summer term, we have been enjoying our topic about ‘Holidays’. We have explored sand, shells, water, inflatables, beach toys and lots more relating to going on a summer holiday. We have created our favourite ice-cream pictures using lots of bright and pastel colours and have made a great display in our classroom..

We have used the large interactive touchscreen to make choices of what we would take to the beach and have enjoyed dancing to ‘ We’re all going on a summer holiday’ and ‘Walking on sunshine’ for our Maths and English starter songs..

Maths was all about water play, painting fluorescent shells and tracking them in water using a UV light in a darkened room..

Choosing colours and different circles and triangles to make our ice-cream cones was messy but fun and we made some lovely sun visors using sequins too..

In English, we dressed up in summer hats and sunglasses and explored sun creams and summer fragrances. We also made pictures using coloured sand, made footprints in the sand pictures and made bucket and spade collages for our windows and our display board. It has been so much fun!

During ‘Disney week’, some Year 8 students went to Disneyland Paris and the students who remained in school made some lovely artwork of Disney silhouettes, Mr Potato Head and other Disney related arts and crafts. They also enjoyed spending time in the theatre where they had fun dressing up in animal costumes, played on the piano and sang to Disney songs from famous films. This was a truly magical week for all of IB.

In cooking, we have created our own delicious pizzas, biscuits and cakes and have been supported whilst learning new skills such as grating, chopping and pouring..

IB2’s Learning for Life lessons were based around sharing, hand and finger movements and communication though photos, vocalising and body language. We also used lots of our communication skills in our ‘Live Music Now’ sessions where Paul came in every Thursday to deliver these music activities.

Swimming, outdoor education, soft play and Ability Wheelz at Alexandra Park have continued throughout the year and the students have shown so much enjoyment in these lessons.

It has been a very enjoyable year for our students and we hope next year is just as fun! Have a fun and safe summer holiday everyone from all of IB!

You can also view some lovely photos of this year’s prom taken and edited by our Digit4ll students in our Facebook album here.

So there we are, another year done! While it’s goodbye to one group of pupils, it’s hello to a new group of bright young Year 7 pupils and welcome back to the rest of us when we return in September. I look forward to seeing you all refreshed, relaxed, re-energised and ready for a brand new year.

In the meantime, stay safe, have fun, and see you in September.
