Another busy week at Medtia. Our students on their pathways have been busy not only concentrating on their chosen pathways but they are all working hard towards English and Maths accreditation. Mr Holland and his GCSE Maths group are working hard and he has set up a club who meet on a Friday lunchtime to work on areas of Maths that may be a challenge.

As you will have read in Graham’s blog (please click here if you’ve not yet seen it), we ended the week on a high with Jordan being presented with a Special Achievement Award at the British Education Awards at the Hilton. Mrs Nelson, my wonderful pastoral manager, had a fantastic evening celebrating with him and other senior leaders in the MAT. Well done Jordan, a well deserved win!

Let’s have a look at what everyone has been up to this week. Our job coach Hayley has an update for us on our Bridging the Gap students at the Royal Oldham Hospital..

Since returning from Christmas break, all the Bridging the Gap students have started new work placements. Everyone is doing really well gaining new transferable skills and getting to know their work teams.

Dylan has started working in the laundry department, he is gaining new work skills such as sorting the wet laundry into the correct cages, folding and sorting the police blankets for the different police stations and folding towels for the hospital. Dylan is really enjoying getting to know everyone he works with.

Cherrie now works with the pharmacy porters and within the post room. Cherrie is enjoying getting to know the routes which she needs for both jobs around the hospital, as well as all the different staff she is working with.

Patrick is working on placement in the Shop at the Royal. Patrick has settled in well and is enjoying his new placement, Patrick is learning lots of new skills within the shop and using his knowledge of customer service whilst working there.

Nathan is placed in the cafe royal and is enjoying working within a bigger team. Nathan’s increasing confidence has impressed all the staff working with him, as well as myself and Amanda. Nathan also works in Christie’s cafe one afternoon a week which he is enjoying and putting all the skills he has learnt to good use.

Everyone is also working really hard on their qualification work. We have also worked on our Curriculum Vitae adding all new placement information and skills learnt.

Down at Manchester Metropolitan University, our job coach Genna has more Bridging the Gap news..

Look who is back in the ‘Grab and Go’ shop, it’s Josh! After a few weeks working in the Students Union, Josh was keen to head back to the Grab and Go shop at the university and it has changed a lot!! There is now a barista style coffee service; here is Josh serving a gentleman his tea..

Josh said ‘It’s a lot busier than what it used to be!’ but he is happy as there is still a slush machine!

Josh has also begun his new afternoon placement where he is now part of the ‘Army of Ants!’ It’s true! It’s written on his hoodie!

Josh is part of the facilities team in the business school which is a new placement for us and he has been working alongside Darren. Josh keeps Darren moving and keeps him fit with his fast walk/run! He also bet Darren that United would lose last night so he now owes Darren 1.5 million pounds, good luck with that Josh! Hope your paid job pays you well!!

Mr Lawrence is delighted to tell us that our Key Stage 5 Activ8 have successfully completed their goalball coaching course run by Goalball UK. A big thank you to Kathryn and Stephen for facilitating the course, the students have really enjoyed it..

This week two of our Pre Intern students have been awarded ‘Worker of the Week’ for their exceptional work at the RSPCA – congratulations to Kieran and Marcell!

I hope you all have a wonderful weekend,

Jaina
