Regular followers of my blog will remember that recently I highlighted the brilliant work of Donna Ward, one of our Interactive Base teachers, who is also a pdNet Champion for the north west of England (click here for details). Well this week, Donna had an extra special assistant as she attended the Greater Manchester SEND Revolution event at which she had been invited to speak and facilitate a workshop. To help her in this task, Donna invited one of our Year 8 pupils, Katie, to also speak and share her own views on ways in which we can improve the lives of children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities across Greater Manchester.
The event, featured Andy Burnham as ‘Guest Listener’, and other audience members that included parents, carers, local Councillors, Teachers, Paediatricians, Sports, Colleges, Care organisations. It’s fair to say Katie made a significant impression on everyone that was there, with members of the audience approaching her following her talk to find out more about her views. Our Mayor himself, even took time to sit down with Katie and listen further to what she had to say. We’re all amazingly proud of Katie, not just in the way she has represented both herself and the school but also that she is actively involved in helping to ‘create meaningful futures’ for young people with special educational needs and disabilities across Greater Manchester. This week another of our Year 7 classes, 7TCD, would like to share some of their work with you..
Our class really enjoyed World Book Day last week. We have all taken part in some fantastic activities; we got the opportunity to read some new books and we even had an author called Pippa Pixley visit us and talk about stories. Pippa also helped us design some pictures, Kyan says, ‘I had lots of fun using all the different colors and making a picture’.
This week made reading fun again and allowed us to realise how much fun books can be. On Thursday we even dressed up as different characters from books, we had some brilliant outfits such as Matilda, Harry Potter, a princess and some very brave soldiers..
We would like to thanks Mrs Holland for a fantastic World Book Week and can’t wait for next year.
Our class had some fantastic behavior this week with 2 students receiving Student of the Week – Jake received his award for making positive steps and making the right choices. Jake says ‘I am really proud of getting Student of the Week’. Tom also received Star of the Week for taking part in all lessons and achieving 10 bonus points, Tom says, ‘I like getting certificates and can I be Star of the Week again?’
Our students are looking forward to the upcoming Dodgeball tournament at the end of term and can’t wait to compete against other classes and showcase their skills they have learnt in P.E. last term.
Mr. Chard says he’s really proud of every student in the class, each of them are taking positive steps every week – keep up the good work, 7TCD!
One of our other Year 7 classes, 7LHA, have been working hard in Maths on their topic of money. Here they are working out the value of different coins.
This is a new topic for them this term and all the students worked extremely hard, looking at different coins and the value before they completed the work sheets..
