Well even after last week’s bumper edition, there seems to be no let-up in the home learning that’s going on across Oldham and beyond. Your teachers and teaching assistants have sent me another huge batch of examples of everything you’ve been doing to keep up your learning.

We’ll start with Adam who just missed the boat to be included in last week’s blog. Here he is getting involved in the ever popular activity of baking which you’re all getting into. Looking tasty Adam..

Sophie’s also joining in the fun with some ‘unicorn’ cakes! Love them Sophie.

Mrs Goddard, has updated me on some of the activity from her form group and Living Skills classes. Given the lovely weather we’ve had this week, Kyle has been exploring the natural environment around his home, where he’s had the opportunity to observe geese, squirrels and even some tadpoles. Are you going to check on them in the coming weeks to see how grow Kyle?

Back at home, he’s been putting in plenty of practice as he learns to tell the time..

Sophie E as continued with her Living Skills learning this week, in which she’s developing her understanding of care labels on clothing and how to use these to wash clothes correctly. Sophie has shared with us the care labels she’s come across in her home as she’s helped out with the washing. Well done Sophie.

Millie has been keeping active outdoors. She’s sent us a photo of her on her bike..

..and a great video of her learning how to ride her scooter in the park. Looks like you’ve got the hang of it Millie..

This week Mrs Taylor has introduced a new reading app Epic, for her English pupils and what a fantastic response she has had. 37 students have logged on to the app and started to read and explore the books, videos and quizzes. Between them they have read 12 books in a week. She has asked me to share with you the Epic activity calendar which starts on 1st June. You can download it here and print it and stick it on your fridge..

Then throughout the whole of June, you can log on to your Epic app to find books, quizzes and learning videos to complete each day. Mrs Taylor and I would love you to share your responses to the activities using your SeeSaw account.

Mrs Taylor would like me to give a special shout out to the following pupils. Lucy T and Katie C who have been awarded certificates in Spellzone..

Congratulations! Mia who has taken the top spot on the Literacy Planet leader board this week..

..closely followed by Ayshah, Vincent, Callum and Lucy..

Brilliant effort everyone. Finally, a special mention for Mackenzie who has sent us a photo of him reading one of his favourite books. Keep it up Mackenzie!

When she’s not been practising her spellings, Katie has been very busy indeed, transferring all the skills she has learnt in her Food Technology lessons to cooking independently at home. From mini quiches to iced buns and using skills including chopping, slicing and mixing, she’s produced some fabulous dishes and treats for her to enjoy with her family. Outstanding effort Katie!

Many of you will know that Mr Smith and his PE Team have been running daily challenges for the past couple of months now and it’s been incredible to see so many of you taking part and developing your fitness. If you’ve not already joined in, you can get involved by joining the PE at Home Challenge group on Showbie, just email Mr Smith if you need the class code ( rosssmith@newbridgegroup.org ) . Each day, you’ll be set a different exercise to complete as many times as you can in a minute. Can you beat our PE Team or your friend?

Mr Smith would like to give a special shout out to Yunus, who amazingly, has attempted every single challenge so far, some more than once each day. Absolutely brilliant Yunus..

Miss Patchett’s class have used the theme “Let’s get creative” as the inspiration for their learning this week and the responses have been superb. Sean and Kaif have created their own family trees using the SeeSaw app and added voice recordings to explain who is in their families..

Josh has created a colour coded picture..

..and Chelsea has been continuing to be creative with her baking skills, this time baking a delicious chocolate fudge cake..

In other learning this week, the class have been following the theme Pets and Animals as May is national pet month. Sean has put an incredible amount of effort in his learning this week. He’s created a picture of his pets at home..

..and categorised animals into their natural habitats..

..biological status..

..and what they require to stay alive..

He’s also carried out research into organisms that love in the ocean, discovering some very interesting facts and providing a fabulous explanation of the term metamorphosis. Impressive stuff Sean.

Mrs Mullen has sent me some examples of Zahra’s learning in Living Skills. Along with the rest of Year 9, she’s been exploring the theme of Healthy Living. As you can see, she has created her own healthy menu with clearly labelled ingredients..

..and researched her local gym for opportunities to develop a healthy body and mind..

Mrs Sheehy has been equally impressed with Zahra’s artwork she’s created digitally on her iPad..

..and the good old fashioned way using paint..

Fantastic Zahra! Miss Ball has been in school with Kingston this week and has given me an update on what he’s been doing, which has included learning about shapes..

..and exploring different textures..

In between, he’s been taking sensory breaks on his scooter to ensure he’s ready for his next session. Brilliant Kingston.

Like Kingston, Miss Carter’s class have been learning through the senses this week. Hot tubs and painting seem to a theme (though not at the same time!). We’ve got Katie enjoying her hydrotherapy session in her hot tub with Mum and Dad..

..Cena with his finger painting for his dandelion picture..

..and spending time in the hot tub..

..and Eve creating a campfire picture for her Duke of Edinburgh’s coursework..

Mrs Holland has some updates on her form group’s acitivities over the last week. Harvey is really enjoying spending time with his family and when he’s not been making bunting, he’s been spoiling them by making afternoon tea..

He has also been collecting sticks in the garden to make a heart for the wall..

Farees has celebrated both his own and his mum’s birthday this week. Happy Birthday Farees. Being the generally great guy he is, Farees organised a surprise party for his mum’s birthday. What a star Farees!

He has also been a huge help at home, in particular painting the garden fence. Well done.

Leshay wants to share some fantastic news; he and his family have a new baby girl in the house. Congratulation Leshay, we all know you’re going to make a wonderful big brother..

To round up the activities of Mrs Holland’s class, we’ve also got Theo who has been studying hard on his Maths..

..Sean who has been conducting some Science experiments (with support from his family)..

..and practising his phonics..

..and Katie who had produced a lovely display to celebrate VE Day and completed some work around why it is celebrated..

Excellent effort all of you. In our diaries, next week is half term. My expectation is that you all put aside your learning activities and enjoy a week of pursuing your own interests. I look forward to hearing about all the fun things you get up to (we have a few ideas for you here if you would like to have a look).

Mr Bright is delighted to announce the winners of our DT competition ‘We Can Make It’..

The entries were fantastic and choosing the winners was very difficult – we had some incredible animations and videos entered from schools and colleges across the New Bridge Group to celebrate our NHS.

A lot of time and effort went into creating the animations and we’d like to thank each and every young person who took part in the competition.

In the end we had to choose a winner. Well, it’s joint winners actually:

Joint 1st place:
Matthew from Medtia and Josh from the Learning Centre

Runner-up:
Kai from Medtia

We will post the winning vouchers next week. Once again, well done to everyone for taking part!!

It just leaves me to say Eid Mubarak to everyone celebrating Eid this weekend including our pupils, their families and our staff team. I understand that the celebrations will be very different this year as all places of worship are closed, including mosques. However, I trust that the spirit of celebration will be very much alive and I wish you a wonderful weekend with your family and loved ones.

Until next time.

Take care, stay safe.

Gavin
