This week has flown by and our students have continued to work hard and ensure that rules and protocols are followed. As we are only a small provision we rely on the teachers from the other sites to support in the delivery of some of the key curriculum areas, however due to COVID this has not happened but the staff team have adapted to this challenge. Mr Holland, Mrs Sarwar and our newly appointed English teacher, Ms Asbury, have been moving around the bubbles ensuring they follow guidelines and protocols and have been delivering Maths, English and PSHE. All our form tutors are delivering Living Skills but the staff have worked through TEAMS together to devise a scheme of work fit for the students in the college that links to the Preparing for Adulthood agenda.

This week I have asked the Digit4ll and Lumenus teams to share with you what they have been up to, starting with Mr Handrick..

This week the Digit4ll students have continued settling into their new surroundings here at New Bridge College and they have been busy setting up this year’s Young Enterprise business. There have been lots of ideas going around and now we have finally decided on the product that we will be making this year – so watch this space!

We have also been busy setting up the various printers such as the mug printer, and making sure that everything is still in working order after the move from Medtia. To do that, some of the students created or chose an image on the computers and then printed them on to a mug to check the quality.

As well as this year’s main Enterprise product, we have also been putting together ideas for other sideline products we can make for things like Christmas sales. There are plenty of ideas flying around, so keep an eye out for them as we move on.

Finally we’re also looking at getting the canvas printer up and running as soon as possible after the move from Medtia. So if you have any images or photographs that you think would look nice on canvas, contact us here at the College or via our email address, nbenterprise@newbridgegroup.org to place your order.

Our Lumenus students have been equally busy..

Well it’s safe to say that we have all settled back into college life and you’d never think that we had six months off! This week Lumenus have got stuck into doing lots of productive work! We are almost back to a full timetable, English, Maths, Living skills, employability and pathway lessons.

We have Pathway time on Monday, Wednesdays and Thursdays. This week we had a virtual workshop from Ben Cain from The Oldham Coliseum all about Bertolt Brecht. We were apprehensive about a practical workshop being delivered virtually but it was a real success. The students fully engaged with the exercises and worked hard. Poor Ben lost sight of us a couple of times but apart from that, it all ran smoothly! Ben left the group with lots of ideas. Lumenus then created their own performances based on a subject of their choice but in a Brechtian style. Everyone had a lot of fun creating these. We will continue to develop these pieces over the term.

On Thursdays in employability, we researched all the different theatre venues within Oldham. We then went out and visited the local theatres, some of which we will be using during the academic year. Here are some pictures, we hope you all have a good weekend..

On Monday, Mr Handrick came to see myself and Ms Wilson to tell us that not only had he completed a 50 mile race around Ladybower but he had gone and won the race! What an amazing achievement!! Mr Handrick started running every day in January and has worked really hard to get to this level of fitness – what an inspiration for our students! Here he is at the end of that incredible race..

Can I also welcome you to our brand new app, ‘Parentapps Connect’. We will now use this app as our primary method of communication with you. You will find useful links to our brand-new site specific social media page, our website, our weekly blogs, college calendar and ParentPay. Over the next few weeks you will also hear from your child’s teachers who will begin to use the app to update you on your child’s learning and experiences here at college. You can view the Parentapps Guide here and if you have any questions, need any support using the app or you have not yet received your invitation, please do not hesitate to get in touch with us on Monday.

Finally I would like to say a very big thank you to the staff team here at college, they have all worked so hard to ensure that the college is a safe and supportive environment for all our learners.

I hope you all have a great weekend,

Jaina and the Team
