I have to admit that I felt a little overwhelmed on Wednesday evening as we welcomed families to the meeting for this year’s Calvert Trust Residential in the Lake District which takes place later this month.
I have vivid memories of 2020 when the last residential took place just days before the National Lockdown was announced. We have not been able to run large scale trips or welcome a group of parents to the Learning Centre since.
As I sat and listened to Mr Taylor talk about Calvert, chatted to parents, and watched the excitement on students faces, I was reminded that this is what the Learning Centre and New Bridge are all about. Being able to take all our students, regardless of need or ability away to enjoy walking, riding, climbing, canoeing, zip wiring, forest walking, treetop climbing, forest skills, swimming and of course the disco!
Its heart-breaking that the pandemic has restricted so much for so many, especially our students, so I’m truly delighted that students can go to Calvert once again!
For anyone who was unable to attend the meeting, please do not hesitate to get in contact and our staff will be able to answer all your questions. You can also watch this video for more information:

On Monday the Learning Centre student council joined with representatives from the school and college sites for an extraordinary school council meeting to discuss ‘What are our students’ thoughts about assessment?’
Students were amazing, and contributed in a thoughtful and positive manner. Here’s a short message from our governor Cathy Williams
“I just want to say how much I enjoyed attending the joint school council meeting yesterday. The contributions from all involved were really thoughtful. Please pass on my thanks to everyone for all their hard work and commitment to this.”
And now, I’d like to hand over to our Interactive Base students who have been extremely busy this week.
This week leads from all 3 New Bridge sites met to agree protocols moving forward around management of covid. We have received guidance from the DofE and sought advice from public health and we are in the process of finalising the guidelines which we will share with families over the coming days.
We are endeavouring to ensure college life is as normal as possible whilst still ensuring the safety of all our staff and students.
I’d like to announce the arrival of Derek the Dalek to the Learning Centre, Please watch this space over the coming weeks for further information!
Thanks again to all the families who joined us on Wednesday evening, it was fabulous to welcome you all back in the building.
Have a great weekend
Take care
