First Aid
Our Theme for PSHE has been First Aid…
We have looked at how to make a 999 call and how to put someone in the recovery position.
We’ve been looking at how best to give first aid in a medical emergency and the simple key actions that you could take to help someone recover from things like:
– asthma attack
– seizure
– fainting
– choking
– nosebleeds
The students have looked at CPR this week and how important it is.
The group were read a story to understand when CPR is needed and to recognise the signs of a person feeling ill and having a suspected heart attack.
We then used the manikins to show the students the correct movements needed to do chest compressions and rescue breaths.
We explained that, unless you know how to do rescue breaths properly, that just doing hands on CPR is the best thing to do.
All the students tried doing the chest compressions and commented on how tiring it is and how they now understand why it is best to have another person to help you if they are available.
The students really enjoyed the session and were eager to learn.
