Sensory

The sensory room is a specialist area rather like a mini-theatre with effects that can enhance topics and stories.  The room may be used for focused work, assessment or seclusion. At the Learning Centre we have a 4D suite with technology that allows the space to create interactive environments through images and sounds.

A sensory approach is used to enhance the curriculum for learners within many of our lessons. This incorporates all of the senses and allows pupils to relate experiences to real life.

Inclusion at New Bridge is seen as a continuing process of breaking down barriers to learning and participation for all. Students at New Bridge present a rich and diverse range of strengths and needs. Every student is unique in terms of characteristics, interests, abilities, motivation and learning needs.

The curriculum at New Bridge provides flexible responses that address the issue of educational access and recognise the importance of catering for such needs.  Inclusion is part of this process, maximising the entitlement of ALL pupils to a broad, relevant and stimulating curriculum, delivered in the environment that will have the greatest impact on their learning.  All students are valued equally. Students at New Bridge are educated within mixed ability form classes with access to discrete provision and flexible groupings as appropriate.

New Bridge School is in an exciting and unique position and has established links with local mainstream schools. New Bridge Learning Centre is developing strong links with mainstream colleges.  All students at New Bridge will have opportunities, at an appropriate level, to participate in the cultures, curricula and communities of local schools and colleges.  The principle of inclusion extends into society as a whole. We are committed to providing opportunities for our students to participate in activities in the wider community, as well as to opening our school doors to provide a range of opportunities for community involvement.
